RSL v. RBNY preview, or “Not in the face”
By: Ian Rose | May 5th, 2007There’s not a lot going on before today’s home match against Red Bull New York to encourage much hope for Real Salt Lake fans. New York is the best team in the MLS right now, and I’m not sure whether we’re the worst (still have to play Toronto before that’s decided) … but we’re certainly in the bottom tier so far this season. Add to that the recent coaching and goalkeeping shuffles, and I’m not sure what to expect today, but none of it’s good. In the Offside MLS Predictor League, I predicted 3-1 to NY, which I’m sticking with. There’s some accomplishment in ending the Red Bull’s shutout streak, but with everything being the way it is in Salt Lake, I just can’t see a win, and a draw would be a fantastic result. We’ll see. Mehdi Ballouchy and Freddy Adu have a tall order in the midfield, holding off a great possessing team without their former star and now-coach, Jason Kreis. Chris Seitz is once again being asked to grow up quick as the youngster will face significant pressure in goal today against New York’s offense, while our own front line is still struggling to regain some of the magic spark it looked to have in week 1. Good luck, RSL - you’re likely to need it.

I also picked RLS to lose while ending the shutout streak. Go, RSL! Score a goal!
P.S. “Not in the face!”
