RSL 0-2 Rapids … oh well …
By: Ian Rose | April 30th, 2007It’s hard to be optimistic after a 2-0 loss, but the game that just ended was a hell of a lot prettier to watch than the 4-0 loss to Chivas. First off, one of the goals is pretty arguable – it was set up by a passback call that I think could be argued. But, really it doesn’t matter. Colorado deserves this win, if not the exact scoreline. Real had chances, and let those chances slip through their fingers. Colorado had relatively few chances, but finished them far better. Freddy Adu looked like Freddy Adu – his passing was spot-on, his footwork was back, he just looked better in every possible way than he did last week. He delivered a beautiful ball into the box which should have led to a goal … overall, much much better night for Adu. Chris Seitz was good, if not fantastic, in his first MLS start. Lowered expectations after the Nick Rimando implosion last weekend made him look better than he actually was, though he made one very professional diving save. Overall, the team was better tonight, but they have a long way to go before they are in a position to get out of that bottom spot in the West. And there’s no break in sight. Their next game, and the last in their season-opening home stand, is against the red hot Red Bull of New York, at this point the best team in the MLS and still waiting for Juan Pablo Angel. Let’s pray that the same system that took 4 months to renew my last passport is in place for Angel … we don’t need Red Bull to look any better. All joking aside, I really look forward to watching Angel play in the MLS and hope he’s here as soon as possible – I just don’t look forward to what he is going to be able to do to this RSL defense.

I am so angry with my team right now! They disappointed the home crowd big time last night. I don’t know where to begin. The lack of attack from anyone else than Freddy, or the lack of finishing runs to the far post, the lack of support for Jeff and Freddy or the fact that we can posses the ball but no one wants to shoot from outside the 18 yrd. line? How is it that we didn’t shred Col.’s defense last night? How is it that Pablo didn’t catch an elbow or a spike on the ankle or a “light” tackle from behind? He walks off the field acting like he won the game single handedly!
