Reports: Kovalenko to RSL
By: Fitz | February 21st, 2008The Deseret News is reporting that RSL has completed a trade for Red Bulls midfielder Dema Kovalenko.
Ives Galarcep, who writes for ESPN’s Soccernet.com and has his own blog, Soccer by Ives, has picked up the story. He reports that Kovalenko was not at Red Bulls practice today.
Kovalenko, 30, has 36 goals and 36 assists in 198 career MLS games with New York, D.C. and Chicago. I imagine he’ll start for RSL. For those who missed yesterday’s debut post, I’m new to covering the Royals (that’s my plural name for RSL — you’re welcome to change it to The Guys Who Have Never Made The Playoffs if you don’t mind the length) so I have no idea what RSL’s specific plans are. I do know they’re getting a tough, reliable midfielder. My hunch says it’s a good move.
Kovalenko’s year-by-year stats are here.
Discuss, critique, etc.
ANOTHER EXHIBITION
RSL faces the Colorado Rapids, the first of two MLS teams they’ll face in the preseason, Friday in Florida. If you’re a hearty RSL fan living out there and catch the game, let us know how it goes.

I think my friend just got a Dema Red Bulls jersey. Oh man, she’s gonna be pissed about this.

For what it’s worth, I think your bunch rooked Red Bull. Kreis is building one gritty friggin’ team.
