Real Salt Lake falls to NY Red Bulls 2-0 at The Meadowlands
By: Rocky Cole | April 19th, 2009
I’d like to say something good about the way that RSL played in the game against the Red Bulls, so… RSL’s uniforms looked FAN-TAS-TIC! As for RSL’s play, not so much. I was expecting a game where RSL would come out with some of the fire they’ve shown in the past few weeks, but instead I was as shocked by the goal the Red Bulls slipped past Nick Rimando barely two minutes into the game as RSL seemed to be. Sure, New York’s Dane Richard’s may have gotten around RSL’s defender, David Horst, with a bit of a push that put him down, but what happened with the rest of the defense not backing up Horst and allowing the pass into Macoumba Kandji? After Kandji’s early goal, the Red Bulls continued to push and I believe that RSL had no shots on goal during the first half of the game.
The second half of play saw Real pick their intensity up, but the Red Bulls Juan Pablo Angel scored and put RSL down two to nil. This was the best game that the Red Bulls have played so far this season but unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Real. Let’s hope Real can regroup before next week’s match against The New England Revolution at Rio Tinto Stadium. Real has had problems winning away from home since joining the MLS, but coach Jason Kreis does not seem to think that being on the road is the primary problem for RSL. After the game, coach Kreis commented on his frustration that Real doesn’t seem to come out with intensity in the first half of games, either at home or away. So, coach Kreis has identified the problem, and now the team has a week to get ready for the Revolution. We will see if the players respond.

Yes, I have always thought you had the best uniforms in the league.
Let’s both go curl up in our “my team lost 2-0″ corners, shall we?
