I dont think we plahyed that bad keep in mind we were facing one of the Contenders at this year’s world cup, Look at their overflowing talent, whereas our squad is sorely lacking. We were on the verge of entering halftime at a draw, until Bornstein made that ill advised shirt tug. The teams strengths are definately defensively, It is where we have our most international, and Non domestic league experience. Once Onyewu returns for the WC it will be Spector, Demerit, Onyewu, Bocanegra as our starting four with Bradley at DM, and maybe Edu as well depnding on if we line up in a 451 or a 442.

Cameron, good points. It is true that the team that took the field today is not exactly the one that will take the field in South Africa, and no one will be more pleased than I to see Clint Dempsey back on the field. I think that Bob Bradley is still trying out a few strikers and I didn’t see much in the way of new, exciting players. Brian Ching looked good in Tampa last week, but Bradley didn’t take him along. Findley has the raw speed, and I hope he can make a breakthrough, but I did not see it today. I’m hoping that Findley has the breakthrough as I am a huge RSL fan as well as USMNT fan. Nice two penalties to let Houston back in the game…amazing defense by Olave, even totally supported by the replays. That’s the way to WIN RSL!

The problem is he does this all the time. He has a habit of making terrible mental mistakes that cost the game. Yes, the calls where definitely questionable, but why in the world is he slide tackling in that circumstance? Even if the call isn’t made it is a bad defensive decision.

Lets call it like it is. First off why does Jason feel obligated to mess with a good lineup everytime he is on the damn road. Quit screwing with things. Second off, given the lineup, we had no holding midfield. the score should have been 4 nil, our back was open all night. Third, Olave needs to be told to stay on his feet, quit these silly tackles and build some confidence on his feet. This has become a routine, every time Olave marks up I hold my breath that he won’t get a card. He is a liability at this point. Jason needs to pull his head out and quit thinking he is creative by tweaking the lineup. Ridiculous.

Good points, but before we get too harsh on Olave, take a look at Michael Lewis’s article on the calls that is linked on my wrap up of the game at http://www.soccerhype.com. Olave definitely has a track record and maybe that makes him a card target, especially in the area. His other option would have been McKenzie, I suppose. He played okay in San Jose, but I’ve not seen him enough. As far as being outplayed last night, we’ll have to disagree on that one. I think Beckerman controlled the midfield and the pace of play. I was wondering why he kept Findley out too at the start. I figure it was because he was banged up from the SJ opener, but then why bring him in at all? Stay tuned for next week’s lineup, I suppose.

I didn’t get to see the game, but everything I’ve read indicates that it was a well-fought game even if the Galaxy had the upper hand for most of it. I wonder how it would have turned out if RSL hadn’t had that Cup game mid-week.
Both teams have injuries to important players, so I’m already looking forward to the rematch at Rio Tinto when, hopefully, both teams will be full strength and playing quality futbol.
Given what I’ve seen so far this season, and 4 games isn’t really an indicator, I know, the class of the league seems to be LA, RSL, and Seattle.

I will say that the Western Conference looks strong as always. I was expecting more from Chicago and of course from Toronto. The Red Bulls have started strong, so they have potential as well as New England. If I was making an early season prediction I would say that we will see the Galaxy, Real, and Sounders in the playoff mix at the end of the season. As far as the Eastern Conference, it is harder to guess, but I will bet that Columbus, Red Bulls, Chicago and New England are in the upper half of their table. DC and Toronto are struggling.
