Is There Anything To Look Forward To? Well…
By: Wiz | July 5th, 2007Last night on the post game show, coach..err, technical director, John Ellinger mentioned a new player coming to RSL but was being delayed by a visa problem. Could this be our “designated player”? There has been some talk lately about who the best fit would be and the need to have an impact player now. Dave Checketts said that they have wanted to make sure that the player was committed to the team and franchise before spending the money. That sounds wise right? I mean we don’t need another overhyped South American to show up out of shape and out of form. I believe this decision is crucial. Can you imagine shelling out some serious cash and still missing the playoffs?! RSL hasn’t had the best track record decision wise and this one, if done to hasty, could sink the franchise. So, any thoughts on who? Well, the first name that comes to mind is Juan Ramon Riquelme. He is without a club right now and is considered one of the world’s best attacking midfielders. With a little bit of money maybe we could swing it. Claude Makelele has said he wouldn’t mind playing in America. This holding midfielder maybe isn’t the type of impact player that comes to mind but there isn’t anyone better or more qualified to show a struggling team how to win (EPL and World Cup champion). Shevchenko has an American wife and has recently said he would like to play in the US. His stock has dropped since signing with Chelsea. His price tag maybe too much and with the current situation at Chelsea I don’t think Sheva is going anywhere. These are just a few names. Tell me what you think or who you would want.
