I’m Sick Of Excuses!!! And Of Fans Telling Me I’m Not A Real Fan Because Of It!!
By: Wiz | August 20th, 2007I could go on about how well RSL played and just how unlucky we were….Blah Blah Blah. When it comes down to it this franchise has let everyone down. Lets look at the rest of the league. How is Chivas USA doing? How is Toronto doing? We have two wins in 18 games!!! If this were a highschool team you could get behind them and give the rah rah rah keep your head up pep talk, but last time I checked this was a professional organization…at least the name implies it if actions don’t. Should we not expect better. Last year was a coming out party and this year since dropping the win and giving away two points to Dallas in the opener we have just sucked. I get that we are now in a rebuilding phase. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON. I aslo hate how the club has said well look at the win against Everton FC and the draw with Boca Jr.’s. Lets look at those wins: Everton’s first preseason game..big deal. Try playing them in midseason form. Boca was without Palacio and Riquelme and played a lot of their youngsters…wow a draw. Then against the Dynamo without De Rosario after they had a monster tourny in the Superliga. The only way we can win it seems is if our team plays another one that is either tired, beat up, in preseason or doesn’t play their stars. You may say that a win is a win and I will agree (DC United is the exception) but all I am saying is that this may explain why we only have two wins this season. This club is begining to, if not already, be infected with a losing/losers tradition. This is usually only cured by new ownership or a new locale.
One other thing, listening to the post-game show I heard some, can’t we all be friends soft punk, call out another frustrated fan(you should have heard that guy go off, it was awesome) because, (read with a whiny voice) “we have to understand that the team is basically brand new and the fans should give them some slack…” Can someone please find me a job where I can get paid for a poor performance or where my intentions are all that count? What I see happening on the pitch is an absolute horror show! The sad thing is that I just can’t stop watching.

The only way to cope with a situation of this kind is to embrace the pain, to revel in it. I did as much with New England back when it was necessary to do so. Realize that ironic cheering is the only kind of cheering you’ll be doing. Find a player particularly emblematic of the team’s earnest attempts to succeed and cheer them on; this was why Paul Keegan became my favorite player during those years.
The hardest thing is finding the off-switch after making this adjustment. The Revs (comparative) success leaves me wanting more…so, rather than appreciate being able to cheer for a team that wins more often than they lose, I kind of hate them now for their mechanically efficient, and yet not wholly sufficient (rhyme time!) style of play.

Brilliant update, Wiz. Thank you for not mincing words. RSL Fans have every right to be upset–and to say so loudly. Enough is enough.
Does accountability matter to Checketts?

Jeff,
That is great advice. I will take it to hart beleive me. I wish I were in your shoes at the moment. I take hope in watching the Revolution by thinking that if a team can stay together and keep a system in place, sooner or later they will turn into a top table team. Thanks for the help.Posted from
