First victory of the season, sort of …
By: Ian Rose | April 18th, 2007Well, no one accurately predicted it, but Real Salt Lake won the first match of its 2007 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup campaign today, and its first win since the start of the MLS season, beating Kansas City 2-1. I have very few details of the match just now, but I’ll certainly post more later when I get a full report. Nice to have the boys feel a win - even if it doesn’t count in the league table, a win’s a win - and anytime we advance to face the CRapids, it’s a big day for Real. Colorado will be a tough task, but as I’ve said before, these are two teams that do not like each other, and its the biggest rivalry Real has … nice win, however it came about. More later.

The game was really messy; I think the conditions made for a ton of chaotic plays. Both teams hit the post, missed open opportunities, fell down defending a run, etc. The Wizards were lucky to get to halftime only down 1-0, but I think RSL is lucky we didn’t win it in the 2nd.
Williams put in the winner at 109′ (extra time).
