Doctor in the house Saturday …

By: Fitz | March 25th, 2008

… but should he start?

Kenny Deuchar is all set, paper-wise, to leave the UK and work here in the United States. The official blog of Real Salt Lake says he’ll head to Salt Lake on Thursday, two days before the scheduled season opener against the Chicago Fire.

Deuchar hasn’t been with the team since they broke camp in Argentina.

So what should coach Jason Kreis do Saturday?

(1) Start him? It’s not like he’s forgotten how to play.

(2) Bring him off the bench? Surely he has 20 minutes of good football in him.

(3) Rest him? He’s been away from the team too long.

(4) Why the hell are you asking this? You think Kreis is too stupid to make up his own mind? Well, without debate we wouldn’t have a blog.

What do you think? What’s your starting tandem up front? And why haven’t I placed a retro video on here in so long?

That last question was outstanding. Thanks for asking. Here’s fellow Scot Edwyn Collins with a live version of “A Girl Like You.” Note two elements missing from music today: an actual guitar solo, and music played on MTV.

I’m a big Kenny Deuchar fan, as you know, but even I wouldn’t start him after the break he’s had. I’d have him riding the pine until he gets back in form, and bring him in for twenty minutes or so to start off. He’ll be a good late addition for the Fire match, and I’m sure he’ll be ready soon to start, if that’s what Kreis wants from him.

Jetlag can be nasty and if he’s not 100% I say delay his RSL debut till next game, or bring him off the bench. If he feels fit and is ready, by all means start him.

Just echoing but… sub him for a few games. It will be great to get our tiny little trio of other forwards some experience early in the season, and we shouldn’t start Dr. until he is fit and ready. 20-30 min should do fine for a while.

I take it this means you think Deuchar’s actually good enough to start in the MLS, eh?

    Hi Allen,

RSL wants him in the lineup. They didn’t sign a player for one of their limited foreign spots if they didn’t plan on playing him. So he’ll start. Don’t know when. But that’s the plan.

As always, time will tell how good the signing is.
