Catching up on the weekend
By: Fitz | February 24th, 2008First of all, and I know this has nothing to do with Real Salt Lake, but I hope you caught the Carling Cup final this morning. I went to a bar in Studio City, and the Spurs fans who dominated the place couldn’t get their smiles off their faces. Cheers to them; their team deserved the victory. Amazing how good things can happen when, you know, you actually go on the attack.
Time to catch up …
THE FINALE AFTER THE FINALE
Did I say RSL was done with training in Florida after their game with the Rapids? Oops. Turns out they played Florida Atlantic on Saturday morning and won 2-1. The game lasted 60 minutes.
Indra Sahdan Daud, whose spot on the team is far from clinched, scored his second goal of the preseason. Kyle Brown scored in the first minute, thanks to an assist from rookie Tony Beltran.
The full report, courtesy RSL’s Web site, is here. The link will also show you the remainder of their training schedule and exhibition scores so far.
PERSONNEL UPDATES
Meanwhile, RSL has released Ritchie Kotschau, and holding mid Carey Talley might have a broken foot. So says the Deseret News’ James Edward in his blog. And by the way, I’ll be sending you his way a lot. I don’t mind. He knows his stuff and appears to have a good rapport with GM Garth Lagerway. Just make sure y’all come back here for comments. Please?
THE NEW STADIUM
There are more photos of RSL’s new stadium on the team’s official Web site. It’s going to look beautiful. I just hope it’s loud. That’s my one complaint about the new soccer-spefici stadiums in MLS; they don’t seem to be built for sound. Imagine how much louder BMO Field would be if it were built like an old-school English ground. Just sayin’.
THE OSCARS
I don’t care anymore. I really don’t. Just give “Victory” a lifetime achievement award and be done with it. Who cares about escaping Nazi camps? WE CAN WIN THIS GAME!
I’m out all day Monday, working (a rarity) and schmoozing (a necessity). So load up on comments here, and I’ll get back to y’all soon.

The stadiums should be louder in the future. I recall reading an article last year about the MLS and Bundesliga developing a patnership… basically the Germans would help us with stadium building tips and we would help them with tv/marketing tips.
My german team 1FCK may be getting relegated to the newly formed 3rd Bundesliga this year, but damn if the Fritz isn’t LOUD for a 41k stadium….
Keep up the good blog.
