Blogging on the Run – Chicago in an hour or so
By: Rocky Cole | August 1st, 2009
Computer issues and a too fast push on a button sent last night’s post into the ether, but I am over that now and the *&^!@*** computer is behaving itself. Too bad that post went traveling to parts unknown because it was amusing. At least I thought so. Here are the highlights:
Lip reading 101 – Having watched the RSL and Dallas game I wondered about why Jason Kreis was ejected from the game for enthusiastically encouraging the officials go get a “Truck” after Nick Rimando made an amazing stop on a Dallas PK. I mean, who could blame Jason Kreis, from yelling “Truck You Guys!” in the general direction of the fourth official? That little episode being beside the point, it was nice to see the coach step up and take one for the team when the officials almost red carded and ejected Clint Mathis for the little “truck” suggestion.
RSL showed some backbone and spirit in the way that they came back from their two goal deficit and scored four – oh yes- four goals in the second period. Will Johnson, in his after game interview summed it up by saying, “This is a Jason Kreis football team!” Yhea, you got that right… “Truck you guys!” Down but never out!
Now, on to Chicago, but before that I have to ask a question that was prompted by the All Star Game on Wednesday night. What the heck in up with Blanco? Seriously, I was fortunate enough to be sitting on the front row for the game, right at the corner flag, and Blanco was ten to twenty yards away for much of the game. He still has skills – makes some nice passes and can still get a decent shot off – but he can barely run. I was surprised at how much of the game he played, and that may effect his performance tonight. We shall see.
After last week’s Dallas game, Jason Kreis said that this week would be a “possible” turning point for RSL. He was clear that he saw his team do something significant in the way that they came back against Dallas, but the real test would come in how the team responds this week. Okay, so the game is on in less than an hour. RSL came through last week earning the full three points without Beckerman. On Wednesday night at the all-star game I watched solid play from Kyle Beckerman, Javier Morales, and Will Johnson. Add to that what Yura Movsisyan has done lately and the fact that Chicago is without Brian McBride, and I have to give RSL a pretty good chance at earning three points even playing in the windy city. But like the coach said, “Truck Yhea!” Bring it Chicago!
