Announcing the Offside MLS Prediction League
By: Ian Rose | April 17th, 2007NOTE: Predictions for Wednesday and Thursday’s game are closed, since the kickoff time has passed, but the other four games for the week can still be picked. This weekend’s games close at kickoff time as well.
Calling all regular Offsiders. It is my pleasure to announce the beginning of our very own prediction league for MLS games here on The Offside. The idea came to me this past week, when Jeff Bull of the Columbus Crew Offside and myself got into a friendly little prediction contest over what turned out to be a painfully dull 0-0 draw between our two sides. I thought - if Jeff and I can fail at accurately predicting the outcome of games, so can everyone else on the site.
Here’s how it works. Each week, in a post like this one, I will post a list of the games to be included in the contest for this week, as well as the leaders’ scores so far. Scoring will go like this: 3 points for accurately predicting the outcome of a match (win for the correct side or draw), plus 1 extra point for predicting the correct score of each team.
For an example, we can look at that great 90-minute yawn that was RSL-Crew on Saturday. Both Jeff and I predicted 2-1 wins, him for Crew, me for Real, so neither of us would have gotten any points from that match. If I would have predicted 1-0 Real, I would have gotten 1 point for correctly predicting the Crew score of 0. If Jeff would have predicted a 1-1 draw, he would have gotten 3 points for predicting the draw but no extras for the points.
So, here are the games for this week. Since we missed the first two weeks of the regular season, I’ll be trying to include extra games like the US Open Cup qualifiers to have as many games as possible in this season. Good luck everyone. My predictions follow each game in brackets.
Wednesday:
Kansas City at Real Salt Lake (US Open Cup) [RSL 1-2 KC]
Thursday:
New England at Columbus [NE 1-0 CREW]
Saturday:
Houston at New York [HOU 1-2 NY]
Kansas City at Chicago [KC 2-2 CHI]
Real Salt Lake at Chivas USA [RSL 1-0 CHV]
Sunday:
Colorado at Dallas [COL 0-2 DAL]
Just post your predictions as comments and I’ll keep track as the contest goes on.
