Adu, Strugis and Seitz showcased in 2-1 win at U-20 World Cup Warm up.
By: Wiz | June 26th, 2007Freddy Adu has made it well known that he wants to play in Europe. His form in the MLS has never reached the levels of stardom and his position in the line up at Salt Lake has even been questioned. For these reasons, Adu has a lot riding on this tournament. He has to show he is a worthy euro prospect and maybe more pressing, that he has what it takes to keep his position at home. Freddy so far has handled the pressure and shows he is capable of doing great things in the 2-1 victory over Chile. By all accounts it wasn’t a pretty game to watch…a lot of hard fouls. Freddy silences the critics and maybe the voices in his own head by scoring one goal and setting up another and almost scoring on a back flick with his head that bounces off the cross bar. We will be watching Freddy closely as will coach Kreis and wishing him luck.
Sturgis and Seitz were also in the line up. It was Sturgis whose foul gave Chile a penalty kick that beat Seitz late in the game. I hope these two get a lot of playing time together. It should pay big dividens when they return home to Salt Lake.

It’s shaping up to be a very good U-20 World Cup. The US is in a good group - Brazil will, of course, be very tough, but the US should beat Korea and possibly Poland and so have a great chance to advance. Better beware that second-place group spot though … it almost definitely means Argentina right off. I’ll be rooting for Scotland and the US, in that order, but since they’re in different groups there’s a good chance I won’t need to be conflicted.

Ian,
I can’t wait to see how the US will do against the South American giants…Brazil and Argentina. The US has had some great matches against Argentina. RSL is looking good for the future if they can keep their young talent. 3 of their players playing in the U-20 WC…it should be interesting. (I see the US group going 1-Brazil 2-US 3-Korea 4- Poland)Posted from

I agree with your order except that I’d put Poland as a stronger side than South Korea. Should be interesting, though.
