A Great Win For RSL. How About Those Argentines?!
By: Wiz | August 30th, 2007All three Argentines had a hand in the 3-1 victory over the Wizards. Mantilla gets in the record books with the fastest goal scored in a debut in MLS history. The starting lineup looked solid with a shot on goal in just 6 seconds. Morales was fun to watch. He was smiling the whole time just having a good time and seeing him direct traffic with hand signals then smiling when his plan would come together was inspiring. If you wondered how the chemistry of the team would work with the addition of the three Argies, just rewatch those celebrations…especially the kiss Alecko got after the assist on the Espindola goal. I was indeed skeptical about the hype/hope placed on these guys. I was pleasantly surprised by their performance and the way they made those around them better.
On another note Andy Williams’ goal was a thing of beauty! It can not be underestimated in its importance either. We were playing typical RSL ball…packing it in and letting the other team get the better of us through possesion as we wasted touches and lacked any possesion at all. It was only a matter of time before the Wizards scored the way the game was going. It would be great to see that style erased from the RSL mentality.

If they can field 11 Argentines they will be unstoppable. Nice to see RSL starting to turn it around.

Good win but I’d like to see more of Robbie Findley. He’s the best finisher RSL has. Drives me nuts to see Chris Brown in the game and Robbie Findley on the bench. WTF Kreis?

Cody,
You are absolutely right about Findley sitting on the bench….but we also have to remember, who sits the bench often is decided on how players practice. Unless we are with RSL at practice and watch the dedication players put in there, we really do not have a place to be critical. What we have seen in games from Findley warrants him playing every game……I sure the heck hope that Kries keeps this team glued together throughout the winter and into the spring for next season….I think this team could see a much brighter future next season. It takes time for a team to mold, and I think if Jason is done making changes that they need to stick to what they have. In the three years in SLC, I have seen no stability in the line-up….The Yankees have not won world series by cutting guys each season, their bench is solid and that is what RSL needs to do….If you are loyal to your players, they will be loyal to you….
