So, about this midfield …
By: Fitz |I needed all of this past weekend, and much of St. Patrick’s Day, to figure out what opinion to write on RSL’s midfield.
And the best I can do is this:
_______________________________________________________.
Now, some of you might argue that I’ve just written my best post of 2008. You’re welcome.
Truth be told, I’m stumped. I like the depth at [...]
Report: Indra gone, Wingert injured
By: Fitz |All hail James Edward! The Deseret News’ soccer reporter caught up with Jason Kreis upon the team’s return from Argentina and has the following news on his blog:
No contract offer for Indra.
Defender Chris Wingert has a left MCL sprain and is out about two weeks, meaning he might miss the home opener on March [...]
Final scrimmages in Argentina
By: Fitz |Some news to report out of RSL’s final two scrimmages of Argentine camp as I continue to pretend that a tie with Cuba never happened:
RSL 2, ROSARIO CENTRAL 2
This score is courtesy of RSL’s new official blog. Imagine that — a sports team using a staff member to write constant updates on the team so [...]
Beckerman plays in RSL’s victory
By: Fitz |Kyle Beckerman, who has been resting a bruised foot, played Sunday as RSL defeated Jockey Club Rosario on Sunday, 3-0.
Beckerman bruised his foot while training with the U.S. national team. After fits of playing and resting, RSL finally chose to let the foot heal, then bring Beckerman back in slowly. But considering Dema Kovalenko didn’t [...]
Three RSL guys make qualifying roster
By: Fitz |Goalkeeper Chris Seitz, defensive mid Nathan Sturgis and forward Robbie Findley were named to the 20-man Olympic qualifying roster.
So they’ll stay in Florida this week for matches against Cuba, Panama and Honduras. If they finish in the top two of Group A — they will, won’t they? — it’s on to Nashville for the semifinal [...]
RSL 1, Newell’s Old Boys 1 (and other stuff)
By: Fitz |I have returned from a date with Franka Potente. I’m kidding, of course. Our date is tomorrow night.
Having read the official report from the RSL Web site, I did what I could to provide some conversation topics. First, the lineup for Our Royals, with observations:
GK — Nick Rimando.
No surprise. Seitz is in U.S. U23 camp [...]
Laziest scrimmage post ever
By: Fitz |Hi. RSL’s first team tied Newell’s Old Boys 1-1 and the reserves played to a 0-0 draw today.
Biggest surprise is that Jamison Olave played for the reserves. The Colombian joined the team Tuesday.
Javi Morales, one of 17 Argentines on the RSL roster, scored in the first-team game.
For a highly-detailed, tremendously unbiased report of how things [...]
Kyle Brown, the definition of irony, and other crap
By: Fitz |The Houston Dynamo selected former RSL forward Kyle Brown in the waiver draft.
Also, RSL updated its scrimmage schedule in Argentina:
Tomorrow — Newell’s Old Boys (first team and reserves).
Sunday — Jockey Club Rosario
March 11 — Central Cordoba (reserves)
March 12 — Rosario Central (first team)
There’s really no other news to report on, so I’ll take a [...]
This qualifies as news today
By: Fitz |RSL has announced four players being waived, and none of them are a surprise:
F Kyle Brown
F Duke Hasimoto
D Richie Kotschau
D Chris Lancos
No dismissal would be complete without this …
Cruel, I know. But it’s a slow news day. Deal.
